CPR -- Office Style

"Calculated Pre-emptive Strike" or CPR is the buzzword for a couple of weeks now. It the way the police prevents malcontents from wreaking havoc on Malacanang.

In my office, we are also implementing our own version of CPR. We have been preventing unnecessary sharing of files on our network to prevent flooding our LAN. A couple of days ago, our office had an event and the day after that event, our network was flooded because people who had digital cameras started sharing the pictures from the even from their own workstations. Add to that those who stream MP3s from their workstations and you've got a recipe for a verrry slloowww nneettwwoorrkkkkk....

A few days after that incident, we have decided to put a stop to this to completely prohibit sharing of files from ones' workstation. If they need to share documents and other official files, they can use the servers for that.
