Goin' Crazy over TiddlyWiki
For the past few years or so, a web technology that is, in my opinion, underrated, is that thing called wiki. In a nutshell, a wiki is a user-editable website and online collaboration can easily be done using its built-in technology. The best example of this is the notorious famous WikiPedia. I never got to play with wikis early on until...
Last week, I've discovered TiddlyWiki, a stand-alone wiki "application" that comes in a single .HTML file. It took just a couple of seconds to download and when I started using it, I got hooked! Using it was simple and straightforward and after around thirty minutes of playing around with it, I have already created my own wiki-based notepad. (I wrote this entry on my own TiddlyWiki).
To maximize my TiddlyWiki, I placed it in my old 64 MB flashdrive, where I also installed Portable Firefox. That way, I have my own handy wiki site wherever I go and edit it whenever I feel like it (I'm writing it on my Clamshell FrankenBook -- the Clamshell iBook where I dual-boot both OS X and Ubuntu Linux). I can also edit my wiki on any PC I can get to use as long as it has a spare USB port. Right now, my wiki contains notes in using Ubuntu Linux, potential blog entries, and other miscellaneous stuff I picked up while surfing the "Getting Things Done" website.
I am not an expert TiddlyWiki user yet but using my Google Pages account, I'm able to publish my personal wiki. I'll post the link to that once I "sanitize" it and make sure that there are no "implicating" data in it. :) But for now, its enough to say that it is indeed possible to publish your own wiki for free -- however, it will not be editable, something that, I hope, I can fix in the very near future..
