Philips SHE9500: A Short Review

Nope, this is not a part of my moonlighting as a writer/reviewer for mph but old habits are hard to break so here goes...

I've been looking for a relatively inexpensive in-ear earbuds for the longest time. The last time I actively looked for one, all I found were those Sony Fontopias which costs around Php 2,500++ and being the "kuripot" that I am, I settled for a less expensive Sennheiser MX300 -- sounds great but not the in-ear variant I was looking for.

Then I got a tip that there are not-so-expensive in-ear earbuds available at a store in Makati and I promptly went there. I found not just one but two models of in-ear earbuds. The Philips SHE9500 which has passive noise cancellation (costs Php 1,800) and the Philips SBCHN060 has *active* noise cancellation (costs around Php 2,800). Being the "kuripot" that I am, I opted to get the Philips SHE95000 although it only has passive noise cancellation. Upon returning to the office, I promptly brought my iPod out and "auditioned" my new in-ears. The sound was great! The bass was really pumping directly to my brain and I loved it!

The other, more expensive, Philips headphones (the one with the active noise cancellation), according to my audiophile officemate, may not have been a better choice since it tends to distort the audio output and besides, having active noise cancellation would mean that it requires batteries.

So far, I enjoyed using the Philips SHE9500 and hopefully, this will help me get some peace and quiet during my weekend siesta.
