Local Schools to Adopt Open Source Projects

Manila Standard Today -- Schools to adopt open source subjects -- mar27_2006

Its about time that these schools starts including open source in their curriculum. I often wonder why these educational institutions churn out professionals who are "enslaved" to proprietary software making them dependent on expensive closed source programs when the money spent in paying for the license for these software can be used for better things. In their insistence in using proprietary software, they virtually force these students to buy their own copies of these software which costs a pretty penny despite the educational discounts that are available (but rarely offered).
