Use KNOPPIX to Scan for Windows Virus
Question: If you have the flu, would you allow a doctor who is also sick with the flu to treat you?
This is the same dilemma a Windows user have whenever there is a virus infection on their PCs. Is it really effective to use that infected computer to scan and disinfect itself? Viruses infects Windows and once you boot up your computer, you load infected programs on memory and allow it to scan and "clean" files within the computer... a losing proposition.
The better way to clean a virus-infected Windows-based computer is to follow the HOW-TO in the link above -- use a KNOPPIX LiveCD and use it to detect and clean viruses from your computer. It basically works like this: You boot off of the LiveCD and the first thing that needs to be done is to update the virus signature file, then scan all the local drives of the computer using its built-in virus scanner. Its that simple and straightforward.
This should also be effective in scanning/cleaning spyware, adware and other digital nasties.
