Wetware: Computer Brain Interface

Engadget

The picture shown is an actual project being undertaken by the Faunhofer Institute for Computer Architecture and is said to be on display at the on-going CeBIT expo in Germany. Although still in the early stages, it has been reported that trained users are now capable of controlling the pointer and can also compose sentences (but verry sllooowwllly) using the device. I has also been reported that it takes about an hour to place all the 128 electrodes on a subject's head before it can be used.

The software reportedly "learns" along with its user, making the device useful for the disabled.

As good as it sounds, this system suspiciously looks like the ancestor of those thingies that are stuck behind the people's heads in the "Matrix". And how long will it be before the actual computer is removed from the equation -- that all the processing power needed to run a program is just the users' brain.
