Friendster, Shmendster; I'll take Multiply.com anytime
Early last year, during the heyday of the friendster mania sweeping the netizens of the Philippines, I discovered this other social networking site called multiply.com. Just like friendster, people can have "friends" send messages between friends, and create blogs. It also allows members to do reviews, post pictures (a lot of them) and post announcements.
Although I already have a friendster account, I find the friendster website too slow and what I really don't like about it is that everyone was using it -- it was too mainstream. So I opted to create my own multiply profile and do my stuff there. What I really wanted to do was to upload some pictures but its features made me stick to it -- especially the way it shows me the stuff my multiply contacts has done. I had a free multiply account so I couldn't really do much with it -- it had a limit on the amount of picture, videos and mp3 files to upload, I can't really customize my homepage, all of which are only available to "paid" accounts.
Then this morning, I received an email from Multiply saying that the features previously available only to paid uses are now available to me. Good news indeed since I can now upload more pictures without thinking of the limits. With this, I can also customize my front page as much as I want!
In my opinion, Multiply.com offers a "richer" experience than Friendster and I feel I did the right thing sticking with it.
