Lala.com To Allow iTune-less iPod Synchronization?

I found this interesting piece of news on a local news website gmanews.tv and its too compelling to pass up.

The image “http://www.lala.com/frontend/13.5.0-8/static/images/header/lala.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

According to the news item, Lala.com, an online CD sales and swapping site, will soon offer a way for iPods to get music directly from their website. All one needs to do is to download a "small" plug-in to their browsers and off they go! As of this writing, Lala.com already has an agreement with Warner Music to distribute their music using this model.

How will this affect the sales of the iTunesPlus (DRM-Free) store? Will this finally open up the "stranglehold" Apple has on the booming online music sales?

I guess we'll have to wait and see...
