A Damn Painless Way to Try Linux
Although I haven't tried this personally(yet), I chanced upon a website that describes how to run Linux on a Windows XP machine. The distro recommended is the embedded form of Damn Small Linux (DSL).
On its own, Damn Small Linux is a good lightweight distribution of Linux that can be burned into one of those small CDs as a "live" CD. It can even be placed into a bootable thumbdrive, allowing people to bring their entire system with them wherever they go. For absolute beginners, its "embedded" version allows it to be ran under Windows XP.
I am in the process of hogging the bandwidth of my work's internet connection (its the Holidays and no one seems to be working today so no biggie!) to get a copy of the embedded DSL to try it out on my PC. Hopefully, I'll have a good experience with this so I can do a follow-up post later.Wish me luck!
Update: I tried it and IT WORKS DAMN WELL!
