A Piece of Heaven on Earth

First off: this is not a metaphysical entry nor is it something that came into my mind while sniffing something that's not good for me. This is written while I'm having my favorite drink (a Starbucks tall non-fat latte -- HOT!) while having a few sticks of Marlboro lights on top of Shangri-La Mall. It would have been perfect *if* the airborneaccess hotspot was working at this particular place-- my iBook can detect the signal but I can't seem to get into the network to surf the net, thus the belated posting of this entry.

There is another place like this on Glorietta. Its at the Digital Exchange branch of Seattle's Best Coffee but its atmosphere is not quite the same. The one at Digital Exchange do have a hotspot courtesy of Globe WIZ and the hotspot there has been up every time I log on there. The one here at Shangri-La, well... its down! The smoking area at Digital Exchange is basically an enclosed glass booth within the Mall -- something they had to do since smoking is strictly prohibited in all Ayala Malls, the one here in Shangri-La is open air -- allowing me to actually smoke and not inhale 2nd-hand and 3rd-hand smoke within an enclosed airconditioned booth. The one in Digital Exchange is pretty quiet since IT IS enclosed... until a group of colegialas starts to flock in and fill it up with inane chatter and giggles. Here at Shangri-La, its a cacophony of impatient vehicles blowing their horns non-stop.

There's suppose to be a mall-wide wi-fi coverage here at Shangri-La and this is supposed to be my test drive of the facility. So far, its been a disappointment since I've been trying to go online for the nth time and I still can't connect to the 'net.

I got bored playing with Bejeweled on my Treo 650 so I opted to move to the lower level... the non-smoking area then BAM! I got wi-fi!

Though I can't smoke here, its a bit better than upstairs since the only "noise" I'm hearing is the angelic voices of the UP Singing Ambassadors who, coincidentally, is having a free show at the 2nd floor. Well, maybe I did find my little piece of heaven here on earth... :)
