Free Software Abound!

Let's face it. Most (if not, all) computer owners have one way or another downloaded/ bought/traded pirated software. One of the most common justification for this is that they only do this because those commercial software are just so darn expensive and their work (be it school work or professional work) requires that they use these expensive software.

This is where two of my featured websites comes in. They offer free (and most of the time Open Source) alternatives to the most commonly used "pirated" (read: stolen) software applications The OpenCD Project and the Software For Starving Students are sites that offer compiled free applications that can be used freely. Not only does these websites provide free software, they also provide the opportunity for people to do "guilt-free" computing since the programs that they offer are high quality free and open source software. What's so cool about this is that the CDs from these websites can be freely traded/given to others without breaking the law, in fact widespread free distribution of these software is encouraged.
Google Pack
A few days ago, Google has joined in this movement by offering its own "Google Pack". This package, though not entirely Open Source, is freely downloadable and features free utilities, mostly of Google products, that helps enhance one's online experience. Too bad Google Pack is currently "Windows XP Only".
