MacBook Pro: Let The Hacking Begin!
As I mentioned yesterday, Apple has released its first batch of Intel "Core" Processor-powered computers. Early reports says that these machines does not have BIOS (Basic Input/Output Systems) like mere mortal computers but instead have EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface). Most Windows XP (and Linux) installation disks rely on the BIOS to boot, there will be no way for both OS's to install into the MacBook Pro (or the Intel iMac for that matter) without extensive "tweaking".
Windows Vista, on the other hand, can boot from EFI so expect to see pictures of a MacBook (or iMac) running Windows within hours of this posting. Since Linux is being supported by thousands of programmers (it being an Open Source software), I won't be surprised to see an X86-based Linux that "simply works" a lot sooner than Windows XP on Apple.
My fear at the moment: Since Apple will be running under the X86 architecture, would this spell to the end of a virus-free OS X?
