DataFortress: Paranoia is a Virtue
In these day and age of computer virus, spyware, worms and trojans, computer users are constantly finding ways to backup their systems securely. A relatively low-tech solution is to invest in an external hard disk enclosure (cost: Php 550) and a spare hard disk (last time I looked, its around Php 4,000 for 40GB). Put them together and you have a portable way of backing up data. Apart from doing backups, this allows you to be mobile with your data -- allowing you to virtually go around with 40 GB worth of information in your pocket (make sure that you have a large enough pocket for this).
For the truly paranoid, one can purchase a DataFortress SOHO -- an enclosure that protects your data from fire, water, magnetic waves (think electromagnetic pulse), and other environmental risks. It is basically what it says -- a "data fortress". Storage capacity ranges from 120 GB for the low-end up to 320 on the high end. The DataFortress is "platform agnostic" meaning it can be used by a broad range of operating systems. The *real* downside? The one-disk model weighs in at 26.3 Kg (58 lbs.) and the two-disk model weighs 27.7 Kb (61 lbs.)
How's that for data protection?
