No Gadgets Day! -- The Aftermath
Yesterday, I spent the whole day without my cellphone and PDA -- not because I want to but because I forgot them both at home. I only realized that these two "power tools" are not with me when I thought of calling a friend and I'm already in my office parking.
Since there's no way I can go back home to retrieve my power tools, I just decided to simply live without them for a day. The whole day was mostly uneventful but I still was able to chronicle it here, here and here. The experience is actually liberating since I didn't have to walk between my two worksites, which are two "Makati Blocks" apart, with a couple of thousand pesos worth of gadgetry. I kind of missed them too since without the cellphone, I felt I was out of touch with my co-workers, friends and family. Without my PDA, I was not able to record some financial transactions that I did through the phone banking facility of my bank.
I've learned that I can still function without a PDA *and* a cellphone but will I totally ditch these power tools for good? HELL NO! My work requires me to be in touch with my "clients" so having a cellphone is a must if I will continue to earn the bread and butter I feed my family. I have a poor short-term memory, that's why I need a PDA. I've always been a voracious reader so reading books on my PDA is something that is quite important to me and it really adds to the value of that gadget in my life.
