Introducing the $150 Computer (from China)

YellowSheepRiver Municator Inc.

The emerging Superpower China did it again. They are now manufacturing a variant of the "People's Computer" and it all costs roughly $150. It has got 40GB, a 400mhz/800mhz Godson 2C processor, 256mb ram, 4 usb2 ports, VGA-output, ps2 input, tv-output and weigths something like 400 grams. Yup, its not running an Intel (nor AMD) processor. Instead, it has a homegrown CPU mounted on a motherboard of their own design.

The Municator does all the basic things most people need, like browsing (firefox), emailing (thunderbird), instant messaging (gaim), skype, word processing (Red Office), audio/video playback (mplayer), e-learning, all through a very user-friendly very basic interface and is software upgradable.

CeBIT

I wish the Philippine government initiates a similar project to help bridge the widening digital divide in this country.
