Junk Food = Productivity?
I came across an article saying that productivity in a startup tech company surged when they offered free doughnuts to their staff everyday. According to the writer (Nancy Hauge), productivity actually declined when doughnut expenditure went up and the company was forced to offer the free stuff once a week.
The writer didn't offer any scientific basis for the assumption but I would somehow agree with the observation. I myself get up from my cubicle and roam around looking for food whenever I feel a bit hungry. If I can't find food nearby, I go down the building and actually dash off to a nearby convenience store to get some. This is pretty frustrating for me since whenever I start to *really* work, I don't want to be disturbed and I simply want to continue on with whatever I'm working on and the only thing that can make me stand up is a "grumbling" stomach.
I hope our management gets to read the article.
