Kama Sutra Worm: FUD in Action
Late last week, I've seen a lot of news websites and blog sites hyping the effects of the so-called "Kama Sutra Worm" otherwise known as NYXEM worm. Most of them reminds netizens to be wary of February 3 (or was it February 2?) since that is the day when the worm releases its payload and it will start to destroy some files on infected computers.
The alleged D-day came and went and according to various news reports, expected damages from the worm infection did not reach the expectations of websites and people who were spreading F.U.D. (Fear, Uncerntanty, Doubt) last week but still, some sites are still spreading F.U.D.
The fact remains that the expected fallout from the effects of this worm had been grossly overestimated. This may be because PC/Windows users are starting to wisen up to the fact that they *need* to constantly update their anti-virus and Windows patches. That these users are starting to adopt the use of personal firewalls to block out unwanted network traffic to and from their systems.
