Google-Bombing GMA???

A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon a site of a local net-activist that calls for his fellow activists to google-bomb GMA (Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) and I think their ploy is working. According to Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org), Google Bomb is "A Google bomb or Google wash is an attempt to influence the ranking of a given site in results returned by the Google search engine. Due to the way that Google's PageRank algorithm works, a website will be ranked higher if the sites that link to that page all use consistent anchor text. Simply put, if a site is "Google Bombed" it ranks high on a google search query.

This tactic was used against the late Fernando Poe, Jr. and the way it went was to go to Google.com and type in "Bangungot ng Bayan" then click on "I'm Feeling Lucky", it immediately displayed Fernando Poe, Jr's website. Now a similar tactic is being used by anti-arroyo activists. By typing in "pekeng pangulo" on Google and then by clicking "I'm Feeling Lucky" ("sineswerte ako"), it will display a site showcasing street rallies against Arroyo.

In the coming days and weeks, I'm sure that email and text messages asking people to Google "pekeng pangulo" will circulate and clog mail servers. Its not such a big deal but then again, I'm a mail administrator and if it does clog MY mail servers, I'd sure be "vewy vewy angwy".
