Burn Baby Burn!

Burn, the sister magazine of my favoritest tech publication in the whole wide world is holding a Concert to celebrate its launching. This concert will be held on September 28, 5pm at the SM Mall of Asia's Music Hall. Admission is somewhat free -- that is you need to bring an issue of Burn Magazine in order to gain entry.



Among the performers on the event are: Bamboo, Orange and Lemons, Imago, Barbie Almalbis, Pupil, Sitti, Sugarfree, Hemp Republic, Up dharma Down, Radioactive Sago Project, Spy, Johnny Alegre, Itchyworms, Hale, Sino Sikat?, Nina, Kamikazee, 6CycleMind, Chillitees, Moonstar88, and more exciting bands. An Ibanez GRX 40 electric guitar with an amplifier will be among the items that will be raffled off on the event.

The Better Zune is Coming... Zune, I mean... Soon!

Mere days after being introduced and before its actual availability, our friendly neighborhood "knocker-off-er" has just released a Zune-like "MP4 Player"!


Now, why did I say that this is better than the real Zune? For starters, it supports MP3, WAV and unprotected WMA files. Then it supports Mac OS X without the need of a driver (which I think will not be the case with the real Zune). And I'm sure that this will be way cheaper than the real Zune.

This Zune knock-off is available at the Oriphe website but I think it only accomodate bulk orders.

Amazon Kindle: Hot on the Heels of Amazon Unboxed

Right after the launch of Amazon's "Unbox" video download service, Amazon is now set to release "Kindle", their own version of an eBook reader. As an avid reader, this is a welcome news for me since as I may have mentioned in my previous posts -- I have already gone through literally hundreds of books in eBook format, something that is probably not possible if I were to read them all in their paperback or hard bound version.

Anyway, the specifications of the "Kindle" is still sketchy at the moment but here's what available at the moment:

• It will have an 800 x 600 resolution, greyscale
  
• Internal memory is pegged at 256 MB
• There will be an SD slot for additional capacity
  
• A headphone jack
• Interface to the device will be mini-USB
• Thumb board, cursor wheel and job dial for its interface
• This will be powered by a lithium polymer power pack
  
• It will also have an EVDO data -- possibly to directly connect to Amazon

It is also rumored that Amazon will also launch a "Kindle" site that will sell eBooks for this reader.

"Pirated" Virtual Weapons from China?

First, pirated DVD's and CD's, then they came up with "pirated eggs", now some enterpreneural Chinese are selling pirated MMORPG weapons from The Legend of Mir.

According to INQ7.Net:

The software weapons -- essentially just bits of data -- are given out to players at high levels of the massively popular game "Legend of Mir," produced by Shanghai-based Shanda Interactive Entertainment Ltd.

A former Shanda manager, Wang Yihui, is accused of manipulating the game's software to illicitly award weapons such as the highly coveted "dragon slaying blade," the Oriental Morning Post said.

Easy Vinyl-to-CD with TEAC

I can't believe my eyes when I saw this on the Akihabara news website: a TEAC-branded turntable + CD Recorder + AM/FM Radio which BTW is on sale at a store in Park Square 1 Makati!

This is a godsend to those who have an extensive LP collection that are now gathering dust somewhere because owners can now convert these LPs into audio CDs.

The EnterTRAINER: A Couch Potato's Worst Nightmare

TV addicts can now use their "addiction" to motivate them to exercise more using the EnterTRAINER. The EnterTRAINER is some kind of harness that monitors your physical activity during exercise and a transmitter that interfaces with the television. If the system detects a slowdown in your activity it will automagically turn down the volume of the TV. If it detects inactivity, it will actually turn off the television... motivating the user to keep working out.

Suggestion for the next version: Make one that forces kids to do their homework!
