P-p-p-p-penguin P-p-p-p-power!
Last weekend was a real experience for me. I finally bit the bullet and wiped out the hard drive of my *other* iBook (an orange clamshell reminiscent of the laptop used by Reese Witherspoon in “Legally Blonde”). After formatting, I attempted to do a full install of Ubuntu Linux 5.10 (“Breezy Badger”) on it. After a long wait, I was able to successfully boot Linux off of my old iBook! It took me a while to make it connect to my dial-up internet connection in Laguna but when I did make it work, it worked flawlessly! I was even able to download and install an additional game from the ubuntu packages site. I did this the whole Saturday afternoon.
The following day, I realized that I still need to fun OS X and MacOS 9.2 (classic) from that iBook otherwise my kid will not be able to run his Mac-based games. So right after breakfast, I went on to re-format my
My Orange Clamshell (which I fondly nicknamed “clam”) was not a lightning-fast machine. But knowing that I won’t be able to install and run the latest version of OS X (Tiger) on it, I decided that I might as well settle for the next best thing – install the latest version of Ubuntu Linux! I will soon post a full review of the 5.1 version release of Ubuntu Linux in a couple of day’s time. In the meantime, I’ll continue tinkering with this clamshell and continue to re-acquaint myself with Ppppenguin Pppppowerrrr!!!!
Pardon the lack of graphics in this post. I’m testing the email feature of blogger and since this post is coming from within the corporate network I administer, I can’t attach graphics since it will only be blocked by my mail server’s anti-virus/file filter.
